The competition entry for a new public square for Belval, Luxembourg, in 2018. This project was created together with the team of Studio SNCDA, an architectural office in Brussels, Belgium. We collaborated with NU architectuuratelier, based in Ghent. The project did not win unfortunately, but ended 2nd place! Using the excavations of the existing industrial site, a complementary circular square is introduced. Because of the slight slope, rain is guided to the circular perforation and being collected in the water basin underneath. The square also functions as a roof for the program that is located underneath. All the levels are connected by circular slopes, staircases and an elevator. They create long and short / slow and quick passageways, contributing to the promenade architectural, as shown in the schemes. We created a large seating area around one of the existing excavation, creating a large amphitheater.
